Standardised scores for recent cohorts — the exact cut-off varies year to year depending on the strength of the cohort and the number of places.

|---|---|---|
| Super-selective London grammar | 125+ | Tiffin, HBS, QE |
| Kent / Essex / Bucks grammar | 111–115 | Judd, Dartford, Chesham |
| Other state grammar | 108–112 | Most regional grammars |
| Leading indies (ISEB) | Top 10–20% | St Paul's, Westminster |
FAQ
When are 11+ results released?
Most grammar schools release results in mid-October of Year 6. Independent schools using the ISEB Pretest typically share scores with applied-to schools directly in November.
What standardised score do I need?
On the GL Assessment, a typical grammar school pass is around 111 (on a 141-point scale), with super-selective schools requiring 120+. Scores are age-standardised — younger children get a small adjustment.
Can we appeal if our child doesn't pass?
Yes. Grammar schools have a review panel that can reconsider your child's score based on illness, bereavement, SEN, or other evidence. Appeals typically open within 10 school days of results day. Success rates are low without strong documented grounds.
What happens if we pass but don't get a place?
Passing the 11+ qualifies your child for a grammar place but does not guarantee one. The oversubscription criteria (catchment, siblings, distance) determine who gets an offer on National Offer Day (1 March). You can join the waiting list, often with movement into the summer term.
