Year 5, summer term
Registration opens
Most grammar schools open registration in late spring. You'll need proof of address, passport/birth certificate, and sometimes a recent school report.
Typically May–July of Year 5
Registration deadline
Miss this and your child cannot sit the exam — set calendar reminders 2 weeks and 24 hours before. Many schools do not accept late registrations under any circumstances.
Typically September of Year 6
Exam day
Children sit the 11+ at the start of Year 6. Bring water, a clear pencil case, spare pencils and an eraser. Arrive 30 minutes early.
October 2027
Results released
Results are typically released mid-October. You'll receive a standardised score and a pass/no-pass letter. Scores vary by exam date and are age-standardised.
October–December 2027
CAF (Common Application Form) deadline
You must list grammar schools on the Common Application Form by 31 October via your local council's website. This is separate from registering for the 11+ itself.
March 2028
National Offer Day
Secondary school offers are released on 1 March. Appeals can be lodged within 20 school days if your child was not offered a place.
