General format summary
Three-stage process. Stage 1: ISEB Common Pre-Test (computer-based adaptive test covering verbal reasoning, maths, and non-verbal reasoning; approximately 1 hour). Stage 2: Three written papers at SPGS on the same day — English (1 hour 15 minutes, close reading of literary prose with up to 6 questions including a creative writing opportunity), Mathematics (1 hour 15 minutes, two sections: Section A 35 min straightforward arithmetic and problem-solving, Section B 40 min multi-part questions testing assimilation of new ideas), and General Comprehension (1 hour 15 minutes, themed paper with written, visual and numerical materials testing deduction, inference and logic). Stage 3: Interview (approximately 20 minutes with stimulus material). No prior knowledge required for General Comprehension; KS2 scientific enquiry skills may be helpful.
