General format summary
For 2026 Year 7 entry, Exam Papers Plus says John Lyon’s 11+ uses the school’s own exam and consists of English (60 minutes), Mathematics with no calculators (60 minutes), and a group activity and interview (120 minutes). It says the English paper assesses comprehension and writing skills, including spelling, punctuation and grammar, and that the maths paper tests problem-solving and arithmetic based on Key Stage 2; its practice guidance describes the English and Mathematics papers as standard format, with pupils writing their own answers rather than choosing multiple-choice options.
