General format summary
Watford Grammar School for Girls is listed by the South West Herts Consortium as using the Academic and Music Tests. The Academic Ability Test has two tests: Mathematics, based on the Key Stage 2 curriculum, and Verbal Reasoning; GL Assessment are the Verbal Reasoning and Mathematics test providers, and candidates answer on pre-printed/separate answer sheets that are machine-marked using OMR, with a short break between the tests. For the Music Criterion, the first stage is a 60-question written aural test lasting about 45 minutes, divided into Pitch, Melody, Rhythm and Texture; candidates successful in stage 1 may then sit a second-stage performance assessment of one self-chosen instrumental or vocal piece lasting no more than three minutes.
